Useless Account
Being a modern web user, signing up for accounts left, right and centre had become quite mundane. I thought it’d be funny to create a website where the only function was creating account.
Useless Account really took off when Tech Crunch got a hold of it. Michael Arrington gave UA a huge wrap and when a blog with 500,000+ subscribers blogs about something, word gets out quickly. Digg picked it up with a bunch of diggs and then del.icio.us. I had an awkward interview with a guy at ZDnet, followed by a small interview in the Asian Wall Street Journal (behind a subscriber wall).
I was hit with a torrent of emails containing suggestions for improvements to Useless Account. These people obviously don’t get it. Doing anything to the site would completely defeat the purpose. I considered adding a message to the site “if you’re thinking about emailing me a suggestion for the site, you don’t get it”. I decided against it.
Now, a few months on, still with absolutely no changes, it’s hit 10,000 registered account holders. It’s completely blown all my expectations. I should have created pro accounts. Oh well.
