Pasteosaurs
Pasteosaurus was born from my need for a self hosted pastebin for posting IRC conversations. At first it was built on the extremely popular and GPLd Pastebin. The GPL enforces me to re-release any modifications to GPLd code. Being the responsible open source citizen that I am, I did.
Pastebin had a lot features I considered unnecessary and a hindrance to rapid use of the software. I ripped out sub domain support, remembering names, recent paste lists, the option of different paste lifespans, I changed names to titles, provided user configurable dates and improved the configuration process, added searching, all paste listing and pagination. I ended up removing every last piece of original Pastebin code. Caius, Morten and Chris have since jumped on board with their amazing programming ability.
At this point I was no longer obliged to release it under the GPL but I feel it’s now a much better pastebin. It’s definitely a saturated market but it’s saturated with rubbish, Pasteosaurus is a better pastebin.
