Snap Keynote Reactions

16th of January, 2008

Just finished watching the 2008 Macworld Keynote and I’m disappointed. I’m soooo sick of hearing about the iTunes music store and the iPod touch. I could not care less about iTunes movie rentals and to justify an Apple TV I’d have to increase my TV watching time 100 fold which isn’t something I want to do.

Then there’s the Macbook Air. I predicted it but I didn’t think it’d be so lame. Jobs went on and on about the lack of compromise but what about the tiny HD, non-user replaceable RAM or battery, single, recessed USB port, no optical drive, no audio in or the massive price? My Macbook weighs 5lb and unless I was built like Mr Burns I wouldn’t suffer all those compromises and a much higher price for a 2lb weight drop.

And am I the only one that thinks it’s the ugliest computer Apple’s released since G3 iBooks? Actually, they probably looked better. A curved form factor? Huge screen borders? Black keyboard? What were they thinking? It looks like a Dell!

There were no updates or price drops on any other computer and the cinema displays, which remain unchanged for about three years are still at their unbelievable high price. This was the worst part. I had plans to upgrade to a Macbook Pro but thought it would be worth waiting for Macworld. If the Macbook Pro received some enhancements and a price drop I’d be happy, but it didn’t. No Macs received any upgrade but we did get a brand new computer — problem is, it sucks.
