Small disposable camera experiment (14/04/08)

Good afternoon, I attached this camera to the bench so you could take pictures. Seriously. So have fun. I’ll be back later this evening to pick it up. Love, Jay / The Plug

I love that the entire roll wasn’t wasted by a single idiot. I also love that there’s a photo of a dog in there. Via Clusterflock.

Flickr Video

14th of April, 2008

At the end of last week Flickr finally launched and announced their introduction to video. It’s been talked about and speculated on for a long time. I try to avoid wasting my time on things that don’t exist yet but I’ve been a long time Flickr lover and user so seeing them do anything else interests me a lot. Continue reading →

There’s a new MacHeist bundle|http://www.macheist.com/ (13/04/08)

New MacHeist bundle without the hype gimmicks, time limit, charity or website polish. Also the most useless collection of apps. New low for the MacHeist team.

Kobe Bryant jumps an Aston Martin (13/04/08)

This is incredible. I just really hope kids don’t start trying this kind of thing. Update Looks like it was taken down, weird.

Save, quit job, buy boat (11/04/08)

The story of a husband and wife that quit their jobs, bought a boat and sailed to the Caribbean with no other plans. This is the kind of thing I dream about. Via Ross Hill.

Twitter Profile Page Ideas (11/04/08)

Merlin Mann has some fantastic ideas for Twitter profile pages. As someone constantly looking for new and interesting people to follow but only finding crap, this would be extremely helpful.

Two Female Leads (10/04/08)

Randall Munroe does some basic research on how many top selling movies are lead by two females or even lead by a female with a male co-star. The answer: next to none.

Waxy Redesigns (09/04/08)

One of my favourite websites updates it’s previously prehistoric look.

You Look Nice Today (08/04/08)

New podcast featuring one of my very favourite podcasters Merlin Mann. Also features Adam Lisagor, Scott Simpson and another favourite, the iTunes explicit tag!

Transport models (08/04/08)

A series of photographs taken in that style that makes real things look like miniature models. My favourite is the suburb of houses. Again via Kottke.

I know many of my links end in a “Via Kottke” (08/04/08)

I know it’s generally bad practice to just regurgitate other’s links, especially a popular site’s like Kottke.org but there’s a reason for it. I want to make commentary and record it as something that greatly interests me.

Ford’s Logo Redesign (08/04/08)

I hate it. I love Ford’s current/old logo, beautiful script and instantly recognisable by it’s shape and colour alone. I see this as a problem where companies believe a change of identity can solve all their problems. It’s like a person with $50,000 credit card debt hoping plastic surgery will absolve their debt.

Fear Hierarchy (08/04/08)

Fears listed in chronological order from childhood to parenthood. I absolutely love things like this, anything that summarises an entire life to make it look extremely small. Via Kottke.

Hard Hanger (08/04/08)

This is definitely the kind of thing I want in my bathroom.

A Difference in Sport Advertising

8th of April, 2008

My love of sport transferred directly to hockey during my stay in Canada. One thing that really struck me was the difference in advertising — team jerseys in the NHL, the complete strip even, lacks any advertising whatsoever. The lack in this area is transferred to other areas where there’s next to no advertising in my favourite Australian sporting competition, the National Rugby League. Continue reading →

.Mac MobileMe Syncing and YoJimbo

7th of April, 2008

YoJimbo is my auxiliary brain. After spending a long time trying to persevere with an outdated and buggy Schoolhouse I decided to switch to the tried and true YoJimbo to also handle my notes and assignments from university. My new computer setup involves two computers, a big iMac and a tiny PowerBook. I need to sync YoJimbo notes between them and there is just the tool — .Mac was made for this situation and YoJimbo has built-in support for it. Continue reading →

Dropclock (03/04/08)

What looks to be a super cool screensaver for Mac and Windows. I haven’t been able to download it yet because it weights in at a massive 130MB and I’m nearing the limit of my internet bandwidth.

I’m in like with you is looking for a Ruby dev|http://commandshift3.com/work/iilwy/ (02/04/08)

This had me in stitches, it’s the best job description copy I have ever read. I can barely even pick an excerpt to share with you here it’s all so good. I’ll try:

We are looking for a Ruby developer. Not a Rails developer. For something as gay as Rails, its amazing that its not even close to being approved by Them. So you did Rails before? Yeah - whatever. If you know Ruby solid, then you are good.

WordCamp Australia (02/04/08)

It’s a long way off yet but I can’t wait!

Amazing review of Outside, as in, the outdoors (02/04/08)

In terms of the traditional target age content metrics, Outside is remarkably high in sex, violence and challenges to traditional values, despite the strong child-focussed marketing it receives.

Extremely well done, it’s worth reading every word. I love the idea of treating real life as a game — inside games you pursue only what is more enjoyable. Via Kottke.

Extremely cool Mad fold-ins from the past and present (02/04/08)

Presented in a very cool Flash UI. These things are unbelievably clever, creative and imaginative. Make sure you check out them all.

April Fools Day jokes on the internet 2008 (01/04/08)

I think what makes April Fools Day jokes so unfunny on the internet is that they’re just too easy. Just typing something false requires nothing.
