Two Year Anniversary

4th of October, 2007

Two years of stored jimwhimpey.com archives. I’ve been blogging much longer than that but in the early days I’d throw away whatever I’d previously written with each new design without a second thought. The old stuff wasn’t worth keeping anyway. I’m celebrating two years with a redesign, a huge trend back towards simplicity.

Redesign inspiration came from the latest series of redesigns at Maniacal Rage, although I don’t like the latest one so much. It’ll be gone in a week or two.

Back to single column again. I did some experimenting with CSS3’s text-shadow property which I think only Safari 3 supports. I got a little carried away and ended up applying it to the entire site. The affect it has on text is something I want to blog about. I wanted to use some more fancy CSS3 stuff but none of it interested me apart from some handy attribute selectors and insane Safari hacks.

I finally solved my transfer of accurate colour out of Illustrator problem. I’ll have to decipher my (probably annoying to my followers) series of tweets from that time and turn them into coherent sentences.

I think it’s worth noting that I use a grand total of four typefaces. It goes against everything I learnt about document processing in primary school. For a short time I considered sIFR to cut that number down to three but it’s just not worth the hassle. Anyway, there’s no turning my back on Georgia and Verdana now, they look too good together.

What do you think?
