Slightly Attractive Spam

18th of April, 2007

This morning I got a shock, spam that wasn’t a huge, distorted, unreadable pile of shit. Not that I want to read spam, endorse it in any way or think it should be sent at all, this certain piece actually made me think twice before marking it as spam.

For comparison, here’s probably the best looking example of the spam I usually get:

Upon close inspection it’s obvious it was spam but it really made me stop and read it before I marked it as that.

I constantly wonder about this kind of thing, does spam really work? Do people really look at those distorted, noisy images and think, wow, I should really buy some Viagra. It’s ugly, invasive and the vast majority doesn’t make it through the filters anyway. Beside all that, it’s illegal.

It’s the same case with telemarketers, do people actually ever buy the things they try to peddle through telemarketers? Personally, as soon as I realise it’s a telemarketer I hang up, usually 1 or 2 seconds into the call. Something else I don’t understand is how people find it hard to do that, they’re trying to sell you something in your own house, usually at dinner time, they don’t deserve any respect.

Anyway, I just wonder how spam can possibly be worth it?
